Table of Contents

Engine overheating is the most common & annoying problem for excavators, especially in hot weather or heavy-duty construction sites!

If your Kobelco excavator or any heavy machinery hits high water temp alarms, DO NOT keep working — it will burn the cylinder head, damage the engine, and cost you thousands in repair fees! 🛠️

✅ Step 1 Check Coolant Level First

Low or leaked coolant is the #1 cause of overheating.
Check the main & auxiliary water tank liquid level. Refill standard coolant if insufficient, drain excess if overfilled. Never mix different coolant types!

✅ Step 2 Clean Clogged Radiator

Working sites are full of dust, dirt, and debris, which easily block the radiator surface.
Clean external dirt with low-pressure air/water gun regularly. Flush internal scale thoroughly if the water circulation is poor.

✅ Step 3 Inspect Fan & Fan Belt

Loose, worn fan belts or slow fan rotation will lead to bad heat dissipation.
Check belt tightness and abrasion; replace broken parts in time to ensure normal fan operation.

✅ Step 4 Check Thermostat & Water Pump

Stuck thermostat (only small water cycle works) or faulty water pump causes poor water circulation.
Inspect pump for water leakage and shaft looseness, replace damaged accessories immediately.

✅ Step 5 Rule Out False Alarm Sometimes the dashboard

shows high temp but the actual temperature is normal — this is a sensor failure!
Verify with an infrared thermometer and replace the faulty temperature sensor.

A💡 Critical Reminder:

Never pour cold water on a superheated engine suddenly! It will crack the cylinder block and cause permanent damage. Let the engine idle slowly to cool down first.
